Laser OPS, the first South East Asia's  Laser Tag Arena has arrive in Penang!! Situated in 1st Avenue Mall, it has the largest laser tag arena in Penang with a maze spanning 4,800 sq. ft. fitted with state-of-the-art facilities to take the laser tag experience to the next level. Great for team-building, corporate events and even for party.

Situated in 3rd floor of 1st Avenue, in front of the escalator, just beside Escape Room
Honestly, I'm a fan of shooting games, I played counter strikes during secondary school and a bit of Serious Sam (old games, old stories). I've played paintball before as well. So, of course this is really interesting and exciting to me. For those who had been to Laser OPS in Singapore, I'm sure you are familiar with this. For those hearing Laser OPS for the first time, I'd suggest you to give it a try! Trust me, you'll never regret it. BUT, I must warn you, it's a physical sport activity and it could be intense to some. If you have any injury, please refrain from this. It would be a waste if you can't fully enjoy it and worsen your injury after the game.

I was invited as one of the blogger to the opening of Laser OPS Penang along with others, we had the chance to experience laser tagging first hand.

Front Counter
Pricing
The price during off peak (Mon - Fri) is RM 18 /person for 1 mission, RM 36/ per person for 3 missions. For peak period (Sat - Sun and public holidays) is RM 21 /per person 1 mission, RM 42 per person for 3 missions. Well, obviously 3 games really worth the money, double the price for 1 missions but you'll get to play 3 missions. At the end of the post you'll know why it's better to go for 3 missions. (with a minimum 2 pax to go and up to 24 players)

The enhanced phasors (laser gun in layman's term) with abilities such as Super Rapid Fire, and programmable game modes add new dimensions to the gameplay and missions. From  role-playing and objective based mission for free-for all elimination matches, players can choose from a wide ranging selection of games format. Newcomers can try out different kinds of games and veteran laser tagger can test their skills in advanced level games.

Let's have a tour around the place to give a little more idea,

Each mission take about 30 minutes including briefing. Once you've register yourself at the counter, you'll enter the briefing room where everything will be explained (your mission, gameplay and the rules), you can ask you marshal of the day if you don't understand anything. Most importantly, follow the rules!

After the briefing, into vesting room! Put on your vest and get your phasor ready. Now you are good to go!
Red and Green teams vests
Each vest is labeled with a number, make sure you get the right vest that you are assigned to.
A sneak peek of the vest, that's the shoulder sensors.
After vesting, it's time to face your enemy. Enter the battlefield!
The Green Team's base
Red Team's base
Around the arena. There's elevated platforms here and there in the arena
We were given 3 missions. First game was free-for-all elimination matches, second game was team vs team which the team with the highest score wins. For third one was mission-based where we have to attack the enemy's base to score. Abilities were available for the third game, which add more flavors into the game, since it's a mission based teamwork gameplay, a little strategy planning would leads you to victory. Therefore, not only your body needs to work out, your brain needs to too.

Gameplay can be watched from outside of the arena as monitor is available.
Result for the 3rd game, I'm Bacteria, hehehe.
You'll receive an email of the score sheet and with a link to check the stats of your game online.

Score for 1st round, Free-for-all elimination
3rd game, high in score but 16% accuracy =.=
It was my first ever laser tag, so sometimes I don't know if I really hit my target. There's a speaker on your vest would say "Great shot" if you score, but if you're like me keep rapid firing, the 'pew pew' sound would actually 'take over' the 'Great shot' sound.......... so ya, that's why accuracy was so low for me.

This is how the online stats looks like
At the end of the day, I fell in love with laser tagging. It's was really fun, as fun as paintball but without the pain. I would totally recommend 3 missions in one go, it's worth the money and 1 game is never enough, especially for newbies. As you only getting used to the game in the 1st round, I'm sure you'll want a second and third game for the satisfaction.

After the game, maybe you'd like to get a souvenir?

my personal favourite, rocket shape pen with light.
Here's how it looks like
Gentle reminder: Do bring extra clothes so that you can change them after the game, just in case. You can bring nothing inside except yourself, lockers are provided to put you belongings so no worries! And remember, if you have any injury, please don't go for it. I'm not a very sporty person, my thighs were sore after the third game, so~ judge yourself~  And ladies, please don't wear heels and skirt.
